Las Canciones de Cole Porter

Cole Porter es una leyenda: uno de los compositores más prolíficos y aclamados del Gran Cancionero Americano, y sin duda uno de mis favoritos. A diferencia de muchos de sus contemporáneos, Porter trabajaba solo, componiendo tanto la música como la letra de todas sus canciones. Sus melodías eran sofisticadas y sus letras capturaban el espíritu de su época: repletas de jerga popular, lugares conocidos, nombres famosos y, a menudo, un sentido del humor agudo e ingenioso. En otras ocasiones, compuso baladas tiernas y sentimentales, siempre marcadas por una originalidad inconfundible.

Muchas de sus canciones son dramáticas y teatrales, lo que refleja que gran parte de su obra fue creada para Broadway. Musicales como Anything Goes, Kiss Me, Kate y High Society siguen representándose hoy en día —más de sesenta años después de su muerte— en Broadway y en escenarios de todo el mundo. Su música perdura. Cientos de cantantes de todo el planeta continúan grabando sus canciones en innumerables idiomas, y muchos artistas han dedicado álbumes enteros a su obra.

Como nota personal, creo que Porter influyó significativamente en la obra de Aldemaro Romero, especialmente en aquellas piezas en las que Aldemaro recurre al humor, como en Asi Eres Tu, De Repente, Tu y Yo Formamos Una Multitud, etc.
